Congressman Marchant Honors Eagle Scouts
IRVING , Aug 17 -
U.S. Congressman Kenny Marchant (TX – 24) recognized a group of Boy Scouts last week in Irving that received the rank of Eagle Scout. The event took place at the National Scouting Museum.
As part of their recognition ceremony, the scouts gave a color guard presentation followed by assistant troop leader David Ball leading the invocation. Warm remarks were made by Richard Matthews and the closing benediction was given by Mike Ramsey; both men were from the Boy Scouts of America national office.
Congressman Marchant gave the welcoming address in which he congratulated all the scouts on their achievement. The Congressman awarded each Eagle Scout with an American flag and a medallion. After being awarded, each scout had a photo taken with his family and Congressman Marchant.
“These boys have outdone themselves. Receiving the honor of Eagle Scout is an amazing accomplishment that they will be proud of for the rest of their lives”, said Marchant. “Their selfless service and leadership in the community is invaluable, and I am proud to commend them on it.”
Each scout gave a speech prior to receiving their awards about their community service projects and future aspirations. The service projects ranged from making park benches to cleaning up neighborhoods.
The Eagle Scout rank is the highest honor in the Boy Scouts of America program. To achieve this honor, the scout must earn at least twenty-one merit badges and demonstrate scout spirit, service, and leadership.
